Situated 3km from George and 6km from Wilderness on
the N2 towards Knysna, Victoria Bay, sometimes known as "Vicbay," is
a hidden gem.
This tranquil harbour is surrounded by cliffs, and contains a few
coastal cottages, some of which are guesthouses where you may wake up to the
soothing sound of the waves. Families are encouraged to have picnics on the
inviting green lawn, while beachgoers love the pure white sand of the small
beach. Kids can have fun in the rock pools, and for the brave there's a
challenging walking route that starts right behind the cottages. Renowned for
its waves, Vicbay has produced several elite surfers, such as Olympic silver
medallist Bianca Buitendag. The bay is a surfer's dream come true, with
dependably large waves. You can join the fishermen on the long jetty or you can
do it the easy way and visit the restaurant and tuck shop for tasty food, while
enjoying splendid views of the beach. Vicbay is a bucket list destination for a
laid-back beach day and surf session.
